The humble toilet is one of the most common of all the mechanisms of modern life. It is right up there with automobiles, electrical lights, televisions, and cell phones. In fact, most would choose to keep the toilet above those other conveniences.

The usual maintenance for a toilet involves cleaning, with most homeowners ignoring the "Rube Goldberg" looking machinery hidden in the tank. This marvel of technology is a combination of mechanics, gravity, vacuum, and water pressure, all of which must be finely tuned and maintained to ensure reliability.

Just as with any machine, parts wear out. When they do, the consequences include higher water and sewer bills and devastating property damage due to flooding.

Doing toilet maintenance yourself is an option if you are mechanically inclined and have the time. A successful repair can be a rewarding experience, but working on a toilet is not for everyone. Not all enjoy the learning curve associated with getting the various parts of the toilet to work in harmony, and not all can master that skill. It is for those people that Toilet Doctors Inc. offers its services.

The Importance of Toilet Maintenance

A malfunctioning toilet will use approximately one gallon of water per minute, 60 gallons per hour, or 1440 gallons per day. In real dollars that is approximately $14 a day or more than $400 per month. That is the worst case scenario. Most malfunctions do not reach that level. Those cases  usually involve a seldom used toilet that runs without anyone noticing.

The usual situation is a toilet that slowly runs and its fill cycle is not noticed or ignored. A toilet that cycles on only 4 times per hour is wasting 100 gallons per day and adding more than 3000 gallons to your monthly bill for both water and sewer.

Waste at this level is costing the homeowner much more than the usual cost of having Toilet Doctors Inc. repair and maintain your toilet.
